Fee: $55 for SAA members and $60 for non-members

Spend a relaxing day with friends making books with a beautiful piano-hinge binding. Make your own handcrafted book and slipcase, perfectly suitable as a holiday gift, from special papers and unusual materials. This lovely book has a woven binding that is challenging, fun, and different.

For a creative day in Lake Shastina, bring your imagination, lunch, scissors and glue. If you have them, bring a self-healing cutting board, special fibers, and colored envelopes. All other materials will be provided.

For more information, contact Jewel DeMoss. The registration deadline is November 1.

3-D Papermaking

Fee (including $15 materials fee): $75 for SAA members and $95 for non-members

Build with your own handmade paper. In this sculptural class, you will make a mold and deckle to form sheets of paper. You will also use pulps to do 3-D "casting" to make vessels and objects that will be embellished on the second Saturday.

Plein-Air Painting Workshop

The haze of smoke from Northern California wildfires did not stop our Siskiyou painters from a plein-air workshop on Wednesday, July 2, led by Jolene Biss. A dozen painters came out for a very productive day (see plein-air paintings below). Thanks Jolene!

Wire Sculpture Workshop

On May 31, 2008, Mary Carpelan shared her decades of weaving experience, originally learned from her grandmother, at the Lake Shastina Community Center. Mary showed a broad variety of weaving materials and then demonstrated techniques for weaving sculptures with wire, such as her dragon sculpture shown above. Workshop participants used wire to produce flora and fauna, including flowers, butterflies, a praying mantis, spiders, a bat, and a dog. Thank you Mary!

Making a Travel Log or Sketch Book

Organize a Workshop

Members are encouraged to volunteer as a workshop organizer. If you have a favorite local artist who would be willing to teach a technique to our members, you can organize the event and attend it for half the fee (except for the cost of materials). For more information on how to organize a workshop, contact Roberta or Suzanne.
